Broiler Feeding

Feed represents 70% of the cost of maintenance. Food that is given must give food substances (nutrients) needed for broilers, namely carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals, so that the body weight per day (Average Daily Gain / ADG) high. Feeding ad libitum with the system (always available / not limited).

When using a feed from the factory, the type of feed is adjusted with a growth rate of broilers, which are divided into 2 (two) stages. The first phase is called phase of enlargement (age 1 to 20 days), which must contain a minimum protein content 23%. The second stage is called fattening (age above 20 days), the use of feed protein levels of 20%. This type of feed is usually written on the packaging.

Feed efficiency expressed in calculation of FCR (Feed Conversion Ratio). How is it calculated, the amount of feed for maintenance divided by the total weight of chickens that are harvested.

Example calculation:Unknown 1,000 chickens that are harvested, average weight 2 kg, the weight of 3125 kg of feed for maintenance, then its FCR is:The total weight of chicken yields =1000 x 2 = 2000 kgFCR = 3125: 2000 = 1.6

The lower the number of FCR, the better the quality of feed, because it is more efficient (with a little feed to produce a high body weight.
