Broiler Cage Floor Without Husk
There are several types of cage floor broiler breeder used in Indonesia, namely the ground floor / cement (deep litter), bladed (perforated) (all-slat) and combination (slat and litter. Floors soil / cement is the cage floor of compacted soil or cemented and on it sown materials like straw mat floor. bladed floor, is the home made model of the stage floor is made of wood with a slit antarkayu range of about 1-2 cm so the dirt falls to the ground, while the combination of the stable part ground floor and part of the stage is usually used in Breeding chickens (breeding farm).
In the cage floor is usually sprinkled with dirt floors / covered with husk thickness of 5 to 10 cm and is used to maintain old broiler chickens from 1 day to harvest (42 days), if the wet / moist husks reversed or replaced new. In the stable stage floor covered with plastic / tarps stocked first and husks and used to keep chickens from age 1 to 14 days to avoid a chicken foot slipped, after which the plastic sheets / tarpaulins removed so the dirt falls to the ground. For the floor mat material used is rice husk breeder, perhaps the main reason is cheap and easily available, but because the hull is now competing with brick industry, the price increases.
Cage Floor Materials
Actually, farmers can use the cage floor mat material (litter) do not have to husk, be of other materials because the materials used are essentially must have a high absorption of water. According to Brake (1992) that a good litter material is material that: 1) is absorbent, 2) free of dust, 3) difficult-to-eat chicken, 4) non-toxic, 5) cheap / abundant, and easily transported / replaced.
1. Absorbent means having a high absorption of water so the dirt dries quickly.
2. Mean dust-free chicken if it is occupied not remove dust that can cause irritation to the eyes of chickens and workers.
3. It's hard to eat chicken litter material mean particle size larger than the particle size of feed, especially at the beginning of maintenance.
4. Non-toxic litter mean when the material is eaten by the chickens will not kill chickens.
5. Cheap and easily obtainable materials used are not meant to make increased production costs so sharp and continuous availability.
6. Easily transported / replaced it mean when in the cage litter wet / moist husks reversed or replaced new.
Already a lot of research material for such litter, chaff reported Haque and Chowdhury (1994), pieces of paper and soft wood shavings made by Lien et al (1992) peanut shells by Lien et al (1998) all the results do not affect the characteristics of production and health, death , body weight, feed consumption, feed conversion, carcass result, cases of breast blisters or foot disorders in broiler chickens. Materials other than husks should be used by our breeders to litter material such as sawdust, wood chips, peanut shells, leather soybean, corn cobs, bagasse, cut into pieces of straw, rag paper, etc., because this material exists and is abundant in Indonesia.
This means that breeders do not need to force using husk to litter material, but other materials can be replaced if the chaff is difficult and expensive. Or farmers can use litter material are mixed (mixing materials), even better if added dried cow manure because it would increase the vitamin content of vitamin B12 because they can not be synthesized in the body of chicken.
